We have designed our Deionization systems to maximize the efficiency and repeatability of the unit during the service and regeneration modes.

ION EXCHANGE RESINS

There are two basic types of resin - cation-exchange and anion-exchange resins. Cation exchange resins will release Hydrogen (H+) ions or other positively charged ions in exchange for impurity cations present in the water. Anion exchange resins will release hydroxyl (OH-) ions or other negatively charged ions in exchange for impurity anions present in the water.

Operation

 
  • As in softening process, calcium and magnesium ions are removed through the first exchange resin
  • Unlike the softener, all other positive ions in the water will be removed and replaced with hydrogen ions instead of sodium ions
  • In addition to the remained anions, hydrogen ions will accumulate and concentrate in the water which will increase the acidity
  • As the partially treated water passed through the second exchange resin, all anions will be replaced with hydroxyl anions
  • Now, Water is free of all anions and cations except for some hydrogen and hydroxide ions in which they will combine to form water spontaneously
